Some of the historical choices about extended range and PHEV (plug-in) can be restored today. Real highway parallel testing can save less than 4% of energy consumption, and I'm not talking about theoretical peaks, but large-scale real highway road testing. The comprehensive cost of parallel gear set in 2019 is less than 2000 yuan, but NVH of 1.2T three-cylinder machine running at high speed and in parallel will be worse.

It is controversial whether the internal pairs are connected in parallel. I propose to use mathematical problems to make rational decisions. We calculate an economic account. Suppose that the average user drives 20000 kilometers a year, and the ratio of 20% is pure high speed.(There is no difference in series and parallel energy consumption within 80 km/h). The difference in fuel consumption is 8.8 liters * 4%*8 yuan/liter. The oil saved for this 4000 km is 115 yuan per year, and the difference in 10 years is 1150 yuan. NVH experience must be sacrificed. Since our products only provide four-wheel drive, we resolutely give up parallel and choose NVH better series mode.

If you disassemble the early-production 2020 Ideal ONE gearbox, the parallel gear set remains on top, controlled by software to keep running in series forever. Of course, it cannot be opened in the later stage, because PHEV is the production qualification of fuel vehicles, REV is the production qualification of new energy sources, and it is not allowed to change the driving mode.
