CTOnews.com March 11, according to DSCC research report, in the latest update of Quarterly Foldable / Rollable Display Shipment and Technology Report, DSCC saw at least 10 different brands of 37 different models of products will be shipped in 2023.

Due to lower prices, better performance improvements and improved cameras and screens, DSCC expects folding smartphones to grow by 45% to 18.6m (CTOnews.com Note: 18.6 million units) in 2023, and shipments of folding phone panels are expected to rise 52% to 23.2m (CTOnews.com Note: 2320 million pieces). In 2023, more folding mobile phones will adopt non-polarizer technology (CoE), which can significantly improve display efficiency, reduce display thickness, improve the durability of foldable display and so on. Although the CoE was first used in folding panels by Samsung, it is expected that many up-and-down folding products will use Chinese panel manufacturers to provide non-polarizing solutions in 2023. At the same time, the penetration of the CoE scheme is expected to increase from 24% of the folded display market in 2022 to 38% in 2023.

Another interesting finding is the multi-fold display (Z-type), which is relatively easy to achieve in technology compared to the curly / reel phones that are more popular in the consumer market. Multi-Folds allows larger displays to enter the smartphone market and is compatible with better tablet performance. Chinese brands are also pre-developing multi-discount products, which are expected to go on sale in 2024.

Although the capacity base of the folding display market is not large enough, Chinese brands try their best to reduce prices and plan high-and low-end models to cope with different consumer markets. at the same time, brands focusing on overseas emerging markets are also actively planning folding mobile phone products. The study believes that 2023 will be a hot year for the folding market, especially for Chinese folding brands.
