Hello, everyone. I'm Yingye.

Photographic color adjustment does not depend on feeling, in fact, there are laws to follow. This tutorial will talk about the scheme of color matching, from the principle, characteristics to applicable scenarios for everyone to explain.

There are mainly four kinds of color collocation in photography. Each collocation scheme has different characteristics and applicable scenes, and the visual characteristics conveyed are also different. When we choose a color matching scheme, we should not only consider whether it looks good, but more importantly, what we have to express our intention.

1. Monochromatic collocation

2. Colorimetric collocation

3. Complementary color matching

4. Separate complementary colors

Monochromatic matching screen is composed of the same hue, so it does not form a color contrast, weaken the messy color, highlight the structure and content, so we need to rely on the brightness of this color to reflect the level, that is, the depth of each part of the color is different.

The above picture is the SOHO of Yinhe, Beijing. This building is characterized by the curved structure. There are all kinds of colored lights during the night scene shooting, but this will be too messy, so it will be processed into monochrome blues later, weakening the visual impact of color, and allowing the observer to focus on the structure. Layer by layer of light is the key to shaping the level of light and shade.

This is the line of the desert, which usually has this three-dimensional feeling in the side light of sunrise and sunset. it is also monochromatic, highlighting the line structure.

Monochromatic collocation has great limitations on the scene, which requires the scene to have light and dark levels, and the structural lines are attractive enough. The advantage is that the color of the picture is simple and comfortable, and it is not easy to produce visual fatigue. At the same time, it can focus the observer's attention more on the structure of the scene.

Analogical colors with adjacent colors on the color phase ring are called analogical colors, also known as adjacent colors, as shown in the following figure:

Analogical colors have common color elements with each other, so the effect of this color collocation is soft, resulting in a low-contrast sense of harmonious beauty.

This environmental portrait was taken at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The banyan tree is reflected in the water to form a complete arch, with the character in the middle as a point of interest. The whole picture is a beautiful artistic conception, so use low saturation yellow and green to match.

The adjacent colors of yellow and green in the scenery make the prairie look very soft and comfortable at dusk.

Icelandic rhinoceros stone is shot on a cloudy day, so I match it with cold gray and low-purity blue to highlight the quiet atmosphere of the morning.

When we want to express the beautiful, quiet and soft atmosphere of the scene, we usually choose adjacent colors to create a low-contrast sense of beauty.

Complementary colors are called complementary colors, also known as contrast colors, which are opposite to each other on the hue ring. As shown below:

The common contrast colors are "blue and yellow, red and cyan, product and green", and the adjustment items of the color balance tool and curve tool are also based on the contrast color design. The contrast color forms a strong color contrast, which can highlight the main body, divide the level, increase the visual impact and so on.

The above image was taken in Argentina, but in the later stage of the original picture, the scene is more messy and the color is dim, so the picture is processed by contrasting colors.

In the later stage, the red leaves of the snow-capped mountains and the foreground are treated as golden red, and the gravel of the sky and foreground is treated as dark blue, so that the picture forms two main colors, the mountain peak echoes with the red leaves, the ground echoes with the dark blue sky, and the contrast color is used to divide the layers and highlight the main body.

The picture above is the scene at the seaside during the day, the picture is gray, the scene is not attractive, and there is no light or color.

If we change this scene to shooting at night, we can form color levels and light and shade contrast through night scene blues and lights, and at the same time weaken the unattractive environment and highlight the main characters.

The night scene of the city is a natural combination of contrasting colors, because it is already a blues night scene and warm city lights, but in this work, the focus is on the red tent on the right, which is a point of interest to guide vision. I want to express the effect of overlooking the city from the top of the mountain, so it is necessary for the observer to pay attention to the person on the top of the mountain on the right, and then to look at the city, we need to set up a visual guide of contrast color. Otherwise, it's hard to notice it at first glance.

In the same theme, the way of color matching directly affects the expression effect of the picture, that is, what the author wants to convey.

The portrait works in the above picture, using contrast colors, hope to highlight the characters in the red dress from the green background, in order to express the posture and dynamics of the characters.

The above picture is also a portrait theme, but using monochromatic collocation, the character's clothing and scene are the same hue, the focus is to highlight the structure of the scene, the character is just an element point of interest.

So before we shoot, we should consider our own expression intention, and then choose the color matching scheme.

Separate complementary color collocation is the combination of adjacent color collocation and contrast color collocation, at the same time has two kinds of expression characteristics, not only the softness of adjacent colors, but also a certain contrast, so this way is a relatively neutral means of expression.

The picture above is a typical case. Sky blue and foreground yellow form a contrast color, and there is a green prairie in the middle. Green and sky blue, green and foreground yellow are all adjacent colors to each other, so adjacent colors are added to the contrast color. as an intermediate color or transition color.

The scene itself is a blue sky and green grass during the day, with adjacent colors, but it will be too insipid, so when shooting at sunset, the yellow of Rizhao Jinshan and the blue sky form a contrast color match, which is to add a contrast color to the original adjacent color to make the scene more attractive.

Therefore, the separation of complementary color collocation is to add another collocation to one color collocation to achieve a richer color level, but this method is used cautiously, sometimes the picture appears cluttered if there are too many colors.

The above are the principles, characteristics and applicable scenarios of the four color matching schemes. We choose the color scheme according to the characteristics of the scene and the expression intention, instead of blindly adjusting the color.

Thank you for watching.

I hope it's helpful to all of you.
