Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

On the evening of March 10, Beijing time, it was reported that Amazon's "back to the office" policy announced last month had suffered a heavy blow. So far, nearly 30,000 employees have signed an internal petition against it.

Amazon CEO Andy Andy Jassy announced on February 17 that starting in May, the company would return to its pre-epidemic office model, with most office workers coming to the office at least three times a week.

Amazon employees expressed dissatisfaction with the decision. They formed a group on the enterprise instant messaging software Slack to promote the advantages of telecommuting and express concerns about the new policy. At the same time, they drafted a petition calling on Amazon to reconsider the policy.

Today, 29200 workers have signed the petition opposing the return to office policy, which accounts for about 10 per cent of Amazon's workforce. This suggests that it was a bit hasty for Amazon to force employees to return to the office after three years of telecommuting caused by the outbreak.

In the petition, Amazon employees listed some internal data and comments on the policy to support continued telecommuting.

For example, a survey last year showed that 87% of Amazon employees prefer to work in the office "Monday or two days a week, or less." They believe that telecommuting is better than office work in many ways, including "ability to focus", "productivity" and "innovation / creativity".

Employees also say telecommuting helps achieve a better work-life balance, saves commuting time, gives them time to take care of their children, and contributes to climate change.

Some employees say they will have to start looking for new jobs because of Amazon's new policy. Another employee said that the company always asked us to come up with evidence to support some ideas at work, and now the company should also look at the employee data (the number of people who signed against it).
