Under the "sudden freeze" of demand in the PC and graphics card industry, major manufacturers actively deal with inventory, resulting in a 67% drop in Asustek's annual net profit. In addition, Asustek posted an unexpected loss in the fourth quarter of last year, losing NT $3.823 billion per quarter or NT $5.50 per share.

Asustek's annual brand revenue in 2022 was NT $493.466 billion (CTOnews.com Note: currently about NT $111.523 billion), down 1.4% from the same period last year, with a gross profit margin of 12.8%, down 7.5% from the same period last year; net profit of NT $14.691 billion (currently about NT $3.32 billion), down 67% from the same period last year; and full-year net profit per share of NT $19.8, far less than the 60 yuan in 2021.

Asustek's revenue in the fourth quarter of 2022 was 117.359 billion New Taiwan dollars (currently about 26.523 billion yuan), down 12% from the previous quarter and 17% from the same period last year, and its gross profit margin was 8.2%, 3.4% lower than the previous quarter and 11.4% lower than the same period last year. Compared with the previous quarter and the same period last year, the net loss was 3.823 billion New Taiwan dollars (currently about 864 million yuan), or 5.1% per share.

Asustek said frankly that the first quarter of this year will be the "trough" of the whole year's operation, and predicted that there may still be losses in the first and second quarters of this year. At present, we can see that the terminal demand is weak, which reflects the weak consumer confidence of consumers and enterprises, followed by the rapid convergence of procurement and inventory volume among dealers, which is in fact overly conservative, so it is a double pressure and risk at present.

Asustek estimates that revenue will continue to fall in the first quarter of this year, down 15% from the previous quarter, the trough of single-quarter revenue for the whole year. In terms of products, Asustek expects PC business to decline 15-20 per cent month-on-quarter in the first quarter, and components (boards, etc.) to decline 5-10 per cent month-on-month.

Looking forward to the second quarter, due to the expected improvement in overall terminal demand and the adjustment of sales partners, Asustek estimates that revenue will grow by 10% month-on-month, but is still likely to lose money.
