CTOnews.com, March 10 (Xinhua) Japan's first home-made quantum computer will be launched at the end of this month, and companies and universities can use the quantum computer to carry out research, the Japanese Institute of Science and Chemistry Riken said on Thursday.

▲ source: according to the Japanese Institute of Science and Chemistry, this quantum computer will eventually become one of the fastest quantum computers in the world by achieving "superconductivity" at extremely low temperatures to eliminate resistance.

Officials say quantum computers are more than 100 million times faster than supercomputers and are expected to be widely used in finance, chemicals, medicine, automobiles and other fields. They can predict financial markets, or help develop carbon-reducing materials, or help scientists find the next blockbuster drug.

According to CTOnews.com, IBM built a 27-qubit quantum computer in 2021 in Kawasaki, Japan, for use only by members of a consortium led by the University of Tokyo, including Toyota Motor and Sony Group.

It is worth mentioning that Riken's quantum computer is still in the prototype stage. Riken plans to connect it to Japan's most powerful supercomputer, the Fugaku (Chinese name is "Fuyue", currently the second in the world), and open it to a wider range of directions by 2025. In this case, its quantum computer will only be responsible for the core processing.

With the continuous development of quantum computers and supercalculators in China, the United States and other countries, Japan also hopes to use its first home-made quantum computer as a springboard. Fujitsu is understood to be trying to license technology from Riken and has set a goal of developing quantum computers in fiscal year 2023.

"Japan's first crab eater": Fujitsu cooperates with Riken to develop quantum computers to catch up with superior Chinese and American companies.
