CTOnews.com, March 10 (Xinhua)-- Hyundai is considering using lithium iron phosphate batteries produced by CATL (Ningde era) on the second-generation Kia Ray EV, which will be Hyundai's first electric car equipped with lithium iron phosphate batteries, according to THEELEC. This is not the first cooperation between the two sides. Hyundai has previously introduced ternary lithium batteries made by CATL. However, only the battery unit was imported from CATL, and the module and packaging work was carried out in South Korea.

In addition, relevant information shows that Hyundai will introduce CATL's "Cell To Pack" (CTP) technology in order to overcome the low energy density. By simplifying the module structure, this technology can increase the volume utilization rate of the battery pack by 20% to 30%, reduce the number of parts by 40%, and increase production efficiency by 50%.

CTOnews.com found from Hyundai's official announcement that in addition to the lithium iron phosphate battery produced by CATL, Hyundai will also contact LG Energy and SK On for more battery supply options.
