CTOnews.com March 10 news, market research firm Canalys pointed out in its latest report that the global wearable bracelet market shipped 50 million units in the fourth quarter of 2022, down 18% from the same period last year. Due to factors such as Christmas, the fourth quarter is usually the peak season, which is the first time that there has been a double-digit decline.

Of this total, smartwatches also fell by 17%; basic bracelets fell for nine consecutive quarters, down 43% from a year earlier; and basic watches increased by 3%.

CTOnews.com learned from the report that all suppliers felt the impact of a challenging macroeconomic environment in the fourth quarter. Apple is the leader in the smartwatch category and the overall market for wearable bracelets, but its shipments are down 17% compared with the fourth quarter of 2021.

Although Fitbit shipments also fell 25% over the same period, Google's market share increased by second place. Xiaomi, Huawei and Samsung have all seen sharp declines. Samsung even fell to fifth place, and its growth came to an abrupt halt in the fourth quarter.

In 2022 as a whole, smartwatches grew by 3%, basic watches grew by 21%, and basic bracelets fell by 39%, causing the entire bracelet market to decline by 5%.
