Apple announced today that it will upgrade App Store's pricing mechanism again to cover all types of purchases. Developers can choose pricing among 900 price points.

In December, we announced the most comprehensive upgrade to App Store's pricing mechanism to date, including new price points and new tools for store-managed pricing. From now on, these upgrades and new prices apply to all types of App and App purchases, including paid App and one-time App purchases.

More flexible price points.

Pricing is available among 900 price points-nearly nine times more than the number of optional price points for items purchased in previously paid App and one-time App. These options also provide greater pricing flexibility, with price points gradually increasing in the price range (for example, the difference between RMB 0.5 and RMB 10 below RMB 10 and RMB 1 between RMB 10 and RMB 200).

Enhanced global pricing mechanism.

Global equilibrium prices follow the most common pricing methods in various countries or regions. With a global equilibrium price, you can provide pricing that is more suitable for local customers.

Provide a global pricing form based on the benchmark price.

For paid App and one-time App purchases, specify countries or regions you are familiar with, based on which to generate global equilibrium prices for stores in the other 174countries and 43 currencies. The price you set for this benchmark store will not be adjusted by Apple according to tax or foreign exchange changes. In addition, you can also set your own price for each store according to your personal preference.

Provide regional pricing solutions for products on shelves. Determine the sales scope of purchases (including subscriptions) within App for stores in different countries and regions, so you can distribute customized content and services to each market.

Get ready for the enhanced global pricing mechanism to be launched in May

App Store's global equilibrium pricing tool provides you with a simple and convenient way to manage pricing in the international market. On May 9, 2023, the prices of existing App and one-time App purchases in all App Store stores will be updated to take full advantage of this new enhanced global pricing mechanism.

The updated price will be adjusted according to the public exchange rate information provided by financial data institutions to balance the price you set for the benchmark store globally. These price points will follow the most common pricing methods in each country or region, making the price more applicable to local customers.

You can immediately update your current pricing using App Store Connect or App Store Connect API to take full advantage of this new upgrade. On May 9, if the price updates for your existing App and one-time App purchases have not been completed, Apple will generate updated prices for the products based on their current US store prices.

If you want to use other prices as the basis, you can now select a new benchmark store for purchases within App or App by updating the country or region of the benchmark store. You can also choose to manage the price in the selected store manually instead of using a balanced price.
