Recently, however, there are signs that Microsoft is slowly rethinking and changing its concept of the taskbar and starting to restore some of the features of Windows 10. For example, in the latest Win11's first Canary preview version 25314, @ PhantomOfEarth found that some code referred to the grouping of the taskbar, implying that Microsoft would bring back the "never merge" taskbar button, which means that the icons of the same application on the taskbar can no longer be merged, which is provided in Windows 10.

Microsoft has previously brought drag-and-drop support back to the Windows 11 taskbar, and in the future it can expect taskbar support to move to the sides or top of the screen. Currently, for Windows 11 users, the taskbar can only be placed at the bottom of the screen, while Windows 10 users can move at will.

CTOnews.com believes that these changes, while seemingly modest, are a sign that Microsoft is gradually admitting that it made a mistake with the Windows 11 taskbar and began to listen to the needs of its users.
