An important factor hindering two-dimensional semiconductors is carrier mobility (Carrier mobility), that is, the speed at which electrons move in semiconductors.

CTOnews.com learned from the report that researchers at the University of Texas at Austin tested thousands of two-dimensional materials and found 14 two-dimensional materials with high carrier mobility.

"two-dimensional semiconductor chips consume less energy than silicon chips," said Yuanyue Liu, the project leader. "We have found only 14 materials with potential high carrier mobility among thousands of materials, which shows how difficult it is to find two-dimensional semiconductors with high carrier mobility."

Liu says his next step is to work with researchers to further study 14 two-dimensional materials found.
