CTOnews.com March 9 news, foreign technology media tomshardware recently launched a video coding test of AVC, HEVC and AV1, the results show that AMD GPU still lags behind Nvidia and Intel.

Memory: pirate ship 2x16GB DDR4-3600 CL16

Hard disk: Crucial P5 Plus 2TB

Radiator: extremely cold MWE 1250 V2 Gold

System: 64-bit Win11 Professional Edition

Test the video card:

Nvidia: RTX 4090, RTX 3090, GTX 1650

Intel: A770, integrated UHD 770 graphics card

AMD: RX 7900 XTX, RX 6900 XT, RX 5700 XT, RX Vega 56 and RX 590

Test results:

There is not much difference between AV1 coding test results and HEVC coding, and the only advantage of AV1 is royalty-free.

Nvidia Ada Lovelace NVENC has the best hardware performance and is currently only available on RTX 4070 Ti and higher GPU models.

Intel's Arc GPU also provides excellent quality and performance for streaming purposes. However, Nvidia graphics cards provide a wealth of adjustment options, but also get more software support.

AMD GPU still lags behind two competitors. RDNA 3-based RX 7900 series graphics cards perform best, but their video coding performance is similar to that of the GTX 10 series launched in 2016.
