Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com March 9, Vanilla OS project developers announced that the next version of the new Vanilla OS will be based on Debian Sid. Currently, the Linux distribution is based on Ubuntu, but Vanilla OS developers have decided to convert because they have determined that using Debian will bring more benefits, such as greater flexibility.

The first reason for the overview is that Debian uses a less modified GNOME Shell, while the Vanilla OS team wants their distribution to use the standard version of GNOME. By switching to Debian,Vanilla OS developers will not need to eliminate changes made by Canonical (CTOnews.com note: Ubuntu developers), which they describe as "time-consuming".

Another reason is the heavy use of snap packages by Ubuntu. Vanilla OS developers say snap has several problems, including slow startup and centralization. Instead, they prefer to use flatpak primarily because they are more open and are used by a wider range of Linux distributions. There are also technical problems with snap packages that prevent some packages from working properly in Vanilla OS.

Finally, by switching to the Debian,Vanilla OS team, I believe they have more control over how updates are released. Previously, they had to follow the Ubuntu release cycle, but by switching to Debian Sid, they could push the release when they were ready.

Vanilla OS is a new Linux distribution with an immutable kernel. This ensures that users are protected from accidental changes and damage to important system files, making the system more stable and secure. For applications, it supports Flatpak, Snap, and AppImage to ensure that users are always running the latest version of the application, and as mentioned earlier, it also supports the standard version of the GNOME desktop environment.
