Members of the previous Windows preview experience using the 25000 series version of the Dev development channel are moving to the new Canary channel. This migration continues in the background, but if you are using Build 25309 and have not yet transferred to the Canary channel, you can wait for the transfer or preview the experience plan through Settings > Windows updates > Windows, transfer to the Canary channel yourself and start receiving Build 25314. If you want to return to the Dev development channel, you can perform a fresh installation of Windows 11, and then rejoin the Dev development channel to receive the 23000 series version in that channel.

CTOnews.com cautioned that because the version released to the Canary channel is "up-to-date", Microsoft will provide limited documentation (for example, no known problem description) and will not release details for each version-only if new features are available.

Access keys in file explorer with new features in Windows 11 Build 25314

Microsoft is adding access key shortcuts to the XAML context menu in File Explorer. An access key is a single-button shortcut that allows keyboard users to quickly execute commands in the context menu. Each access key corresponds to a letter in the display name. To try this feature, the user can click a file in File Explorer and press the menu key on the keyboard.

Note: if you see the "pizza pizza" icon on the command bar of File Explorer, indicating that the user is previewing the Windows App SDK version of File Explorer, you will not see this feature.

File recommendations in File Explorer

File recommendation (File Recommendations) is about to appear on the file explorer home page, making the most relevant file content accessible to users. Users who log in to Windows using the Azure Active Directory (AAD) account will be able to use this feature (as shown in the following figure). The recommended files will be cloud files associated with the account, either owned by the user or shared with the user.

Introduce LSA protection to enable during upgrade

Local Security Authentication (LSA) protection helps prevent secrets and credentials used for login from being stolen by preventing unauthorized code from running in the LSA process and preventing process memory dumps. Starting with the upgrade, Microsoft will audit for a period of time to check for incompatibility with LSA protection. If no incompatibility is detected, LSA protection is automatically turned on. Users can check and change the enabled status of LSA protection in the Windows security application under the device Security > Kernel isolation page.

Narrator Outlook support

The narrator will now retrieve updates to his Outlook support when the narrator starts. Microsoft has not added any other features to Outlook support, but this work will allow the Outlook experience to be updated through Microsoft Store. After the download is complete, the user will receive a notification that the update has been obtained. With this change, the narrator's Outlook support is limited to US-English. Future versions will support other languages.

Change and improvement [general]

In order to improve the security of Windows 11, Microsoft will disable the remote Mail slot (Remote Mailslot) protocol by default from this version. The old remote mail slot protocol is a simple, unreliable, insecure and one-way interprocess communication protocol between the client and the server. It was introduced in Windows NT 3.1 and will be deprecated in future Windows versions. If the application attempts to open a remote mail slot session through the SMB protocol, the user may see one or more of the following errors:

If the user's application still uses remote mail slots, contact the vendor to update their software. Legacy remote mail slots are not secure and should not be used under any circumstances. If the user needs to enable the remote mail slot temporarily, run the following command in the elevated PowerShell console:

PS C:\ > Set-SmbClientConfiguration-EnableMailslots $true about Canary Channel Canary Channel is a new plan to preview changes to the Windows platform that take longer to prepare before being released to customers. Some examples of this include major changes to the Windows kernel, new API, and so on. Microsoft's build released to Canary Channel is not considered to match any particular Windows version, and some changes attempted in Canary Channel may never be released, while others may appear in future Windows versions when ready.

The version of the Canary channel is updated quickly, which means that very little validation and documentation will be done before providing them to Insiders. These versions may contain major issues that can make it impossible to use PC computers properly, or even require a reinstallation of Windows in rare cases.

Microsoft Canary Channel does not receive daily builds; however, Microsoft is likely to release versions more frequently in the future. The desktop watermark that users see in the lower right corner of the desktop is normal for these preview releases.
