In the morning of March 9, Beijing time, it was reported that in the past year, two employees have filed a lawsuit against Blue Origin, a commercial space company owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, alleging that the company discriminates against older employees.

According to a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Christian Cristian Bureriu, a former aerospace software engineer at Blue Origin, filed a lawsuit against the rocket company owned by Jeff Jeff Bezos last September, claiming that his supervisor told him to look for a young candidate to replace him because "it is easier for young people to coach".

In his indictment, Mr Bree said that during his more than three years of working for Blue Origin, the company had "forced" about 20 employees over the age of 40 and replaced them with those in their 20s and 30s. The engineer claimed that he faced harassment and retaliation and was fired after reporting to the human resources department. In addition, before he was fired, he called in sick and asked for special facilities to continue to work from home rather than access to Blue Origin facilities in Washington State.

A spokesman for Blue Origin did not respond to a request for comment and the case was referred to private arbitration in December.

In addition to Bree Wu, another employee reportedly filed a lawsuit against Blue Origin on the grounds of age discrimination. A lawsuit filed against the company in January by an employee named David Rowan claimed that Mr Bree's allegations "provide convincing circumstantial evidence to support the assertion of deliberate age discrimination at Blue Origin".

In his indictment, Mr Rowan said he had applied for 14 different positions at the company in two years, but had never received a job offer. Luo Wan was quoted in the media as saying that he claimed that Blue Origin asked him questions during the interview to determine his age.

Previous reports showed that the recruitment process for Blue Origin included an article on manned spaceflight and a five-hour group interview.

This is not the first time Blue Origin has faced criticism from former employees. In 2021, Alexandra Abrams (Alexandra Abrams), a former head of employee communications at Blue Origin, published an open letter with a group of 21 former and current employees who claimed to be Blue Origin. In the letter, Abrams and others accuse Blue Origin of fostering a sexist work culture and sacrificing security to win the space race between billionaires.

At the time, a representative of Blue Origin said the company would not tolerate harassment and would investigate the claim. The company said Ms. Abrams was fired after repeated warnings about federal export control regulations, although she told the media that she had never received such warnings.

A spokesman for Blue Origin said at the time: "We adhere to our safety record and believe that the New Shepard (New Shepard) is the safest spacecraft ever designed or built."

The company has suffered several setbacks since it launched its first manned mission in July 2021, sending Bezos and three others to the edge of space. The company's New Shepard space tourist module has been grounded for several months after the escape hatch launched last September went wrong.
