CTOnews.com Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis and Tom O'Malley said in a research paper shared with investors this week that most of the LiDAR sensors on Apple's iPhone 15 Pro models will be provided by Sony.

CTOnews.com translated the research report as follows:

Sony supplies most of the modules, VCSELs, receivers and drivers in Apple's iPhone 15 Pro models, which is bad news for Lumentum and WIN Semi.

Apple began equipping iPhone 12 Pro models in 2020 with LiDAR sensors that measure optical distance and capture depth information, and the hardware is expected to remain unique to iPhone 15 Pro models. An improved LiDAR scanner could benefit augmented reality apps, night mode photos, and camera autofocus.

Analyst Guo Mingxi has said in previous tweets that Sony will replace Lumentum Holdings and WIN Semi as the exclusive LiDAR sensor supplier for Apple's flagship iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models.
