"We recently discovered an incident of unauthorized access to our maintenance technician document server," an Acer spokesman said on Tuesday. "our investigation is ongoing, but there is no indication that any consumer data is stored on the server."

According to a post on the cyber crime forum BreachForums by a hacker under the pseudonym Kernelware on Monday, a total of "all kinds of confidential information" stolen from Acer totaled 160GB, including 655 directories and 2869 documents.

Kernelware claims to have stolen information including confidential slides and presentations, employee technical manuals, Windows image format files, binaries, back-end infrastructure data, confidential product documents, replacement digital product keys, ISO files, Windows system deployment image files, BIOS components and ROM files.

"to be honest, there are so many things in it that it will take me several days to read the leaked content," Kernelware boasted.

Kernelware said he only accepted Monroe currency as the payment method and sold it only through middlemen, and told potential buyers to quote through private messages.

As of CTOnews.com 's release, Acer did not respond to questions about the nature of the stolen data and whether it verified the leaked information. Even if the swindler did not steal customer information, the data dump could still cause damage to Acer, according to security experts.
