CTOnews.com March 8 news, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) said on the 7th that its "Artemis 2" manned flight around the moon is proceeding as planned and is expected to be launched in November next year.

According to CTOnews.com, the project is the second phase of Artemis, a new moon landing program launched by the US government in 2019. The plan aims to establish a sustainable lunar base by the 1930s and prepare for future exploration of Mars. On November 16 last year, NASA's new generation of moon landing rocket "space launch system" sent an Orion spacecraft into orbit around the moon to carry out the "Artemis 1" mission, which successfully returned to Earth after a 25-and-a-half-day flight.

Jim Fry, head of NASA's exploration system development department, said at a news conference: "We have gained a lot of experience and data from the successful Artemis 1 unmanned mission around the moon in November last year. At present, there are no obstacles preventing us from carrying out the Artemis 2 manned mission around the moon."

It is reported that the Artemis 2 mission will be carried by four astronauts aboard the Orion spacecraft, driven by a "space launch system" rocket into orbit around the moon, and will stay there for about 10 days. One of the astronauts will be Canadian, and this is the first time a Canadian astronaut has participated in a flight around the moon.

NASA also plans to carry out the Artemis 3 lunar landing mission within 12 months after the completion of the Artemis 2 mission, when two astronauts will land on the moon's south pole and conduct scientific exploration and sampling. It will also be the first time an American astronaut has landed on the moon since 1972. In order to achieve this goal, NASA is developing new landers and spacesuits.
