CTOnews.com Sonos today announced two desktop speakers-the Era 300 with spatial audio support and the Era 100 midrange replacement for the highly regarded Sonos One.

The new Sonos Era 100 (left) and Sonos Era 300 (right) are unique in shape, with six built-in Class-D digital amplifiers, six powerful driver units, two subwoofers and four tweeters that can emit sound forward, up, left and right. In addition to creating wide stereo sound, the Era 300's tweeters reflect sound from walls and ceilings, enabling the device's brightest feature-immersive Dolby Atmos spatial audio. If you want a bigger sound field, Era 300 can also be paired with Sonos Arc bar slightly as rear speaker, creating a very powerful 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos home theater system.

The device also has a brand new user interface that includes a capacitive volume slider, dedicated skip and replay control buttons, and a Bluetooth button for connecting the device to speakers. The slightly supports Sonos Voice Control and Alexa Assistant, but does not support Google Assistant, possibly due to a long-standing legal dispute between Sonos and Google. Privacy-conscious users can temporarily turn off their voice assistant by clicking on a new voice bubble control button, or turn off power to the built-in microphone entirely via a switch on the back of the device. In addition, the device supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Apple AirPlay 2 and USB-C input.

Unlike the Sonos 5, the Era 300 does not have a dedicated 3.5 mm input port, but can be connected to other audio devices via the Sonos Line-In Adapter and auxiliary cables sold separately.

The slightly has Sonos Trueplay settings built in to measure the acoustic properties of the room and automatically adjust the equalizer to optimize the output of the space. Sonos also claims that the Era 300's overall sound has been tuned and customized by a range of renowned audio experts, including Coldplay engineer Emily Lazar and mixing guru Manny Marroquin, who has worked with stars such as Alicia Keys, Kanye West and John Legend.

Sonos also announced today the more compact, traditional-looking Era 100, which offers stereo sound thanks to a tilted dual-tweeter layout in a larger enclosure and better bass performance thanks to a 25% larger midrange.

The Era 100 doesn't support spatial audio and has the same connectivity as the Era 300, including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Airplay 2 streaming, as well as USB-C input.

Following the launch of the new Era 300 and Era 100 speakers, Sonos also announced that some Sonos speakers will support spatial audio starting March 28.

The Sonos Era 300 costs $449 (CTOnews.com notes: currently about 3116 yuan), while the Era 100 costs $249 (currently about 1728 yuan), and both speakers will be available on March 28, 2023.
