Recently, Nokia announced that it and GlobalConnect have broken two optical transmission records in the current network experiment in Europe. This experiment uses Nokia's sixth generation super coherent photon service engine PSE-6s to achieve metro transmission at 1.2Tb / s rate (118km) and long-distance transmission at 800Gb / s rate (2019 km) with single carrier.

The transmission rate of 1.2Tb / s obtained in the current network test of WDM is that Nokia deployed PSE-6s on the metro data center interconnection link of GlobalConnect and used the spectrum of 150GHz. Similarly, the rate of single-wavelength 800Gb / s is also achieved at the interconnection distance of 2000 km of data centers without regeneration, which lays a foundation for long-distance single-wavelength 800GE transmission. In addition, by reducing the number of coherent interfaces required, up to 50% of the network TCO can be saved and up to 60% of the network power consumption can be reduced.

Nokia PSE-6s has made its debut at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (MWC 2023, more information can be found on the CTOnews.com feature page) and will participate in the American Optical Fiber Congress (OFC) in San Diego.

The sixth-generation PSE can be smoothly upgraded on Nokia's existing 1830 series optical network platform without a new frame or platform. PSE-6 can also run on existing WDM networks designed around n x 50GHz channels. This enables network operators to achieve efficient operational upgrades and help their networks transition to higher performance and more sustainable energy efficiency.
