According to news on March 7, as OpenAI's artificial intelligence chat robot ChatGPT continues to be popular across the network, enterprise software startups are racing to apply the generative artificial intelligence technology behind the chat robot to business software applications, attracting technology leaders and investors in the enterprise business field. Market researchers say the global market for generative artificial intelligence is expected to reach nearly $110 billion (currently about 763.4 billion yuan) by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate of 34.6%.

Generative artificial intelligence is the basic technology of ChatGPT and other language recognition applications. Last year, global venture capital investors invested $1.3 billion (currently about 9.022 billion yuan) in startups developing generative artificial intelligence software, involving a total of 78 deals, according to market analyst firm PitchBook Data. Last year alone, PitchBook Data said, the investment was close to the total capital invested in similar start-ups over the past five years and was completed in the face of a general slowdown in deal size.

Of all the largest venture capital deals in the fourth quarter of last year, two were aimed at formative artificial intelligence start-ups. Last October, Jasper, based in Austin, Texas, announced that it had raised $125 million in Series A financing, valuing the company at $1.5 billion. The financing is led by well-known venture capital Insight Partners, and both Coatue and Bessemer Venture Partners are involved. In the same month, Stability, a startup that develops generative artificial intelligence technology. AI announced that it has received $101 million in seed round financing, led by Coatue, Lightspeed Venture Partners and O'shaughnessy Ventures LLC.

Generative artificial intelligence software processes a large amount of data through a language model or generative pre-training converter that supports artificial intelligence, and generates brand-new text, images and computer code according to some simple tips.

ChatGPT, a generative artificial intelligence chat robot launched last November by San Francisco software startup OpenAI, attracted more than 100 million monthly active users, according to UBS estimates. Analysts say this has led more and more startups to try to bring the popularity of generative artificial intelligence to the enterprise market. Today, they all develop enterprise applications based on the ChatGPT language model, or launch similar generative artificial intelligence tools.

Brett Greenstein (Bret Greenstein), a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers, is involved in data, analysis and artificial intelligence. "most of the discussion revolves around how generative artificial intelligence technology can develop 'innovative' functions, because anyone can access open systems directly through the Internet," he said. "

Start-ups can also fine-tune the underlying language recognition model of generative artificial intelligence with their own data, allowing them to develop countless enterprise software applications, he says. "Last year, generative artificial intelligence crossed an important threshold," says Greenstein. "he is already very good at performing many of the tasks performed by knowledge workers in various industries."

According to market research firm Grand View Research, the global market for generative artificial intelligence is expected to reach $109.37 billion by 2030, with a CAGR of 34.6% over the next seven years.

Many companies are taking steps to integrate ChatGPT into existing software technology stacks, but startups also hope to customize tools and sell them to enterprises.

SambaNova Systems is a generative artificial intelligence startup headquartered in Palo Alto, California, USA. "We are working with customers in a variety of areas, from ride-hailing companies to sports brand franchises, from evaluation companies to technology companies, as well as banking, financial and insurance brands," said PD Singh (PD Singh), vice president of software products.

SambaNova was an early developer of pre-trained basic models, which also supported language recognition technology, Singh said. Recently, the company launched a set of generative artificial intelligence systems for enterprises, including ChatGPT chatbots specially trained for banks, law firms, health care providers and other business areas.

SambaNova has been established for six years, and the last round of financing was the completion of a $676 million D-round financing in April 2021, which valued the company at more than $5 billion in the market. Investors include funds and accounts managed by Temasek, GIC, Intel Capital, GV and BlackRock.

Singh said that given the constant complaints that ChatGPT may generate errors or generate incomprehensible content, he suggested that companies test new generative artificial intelligence tools in stages, introducing them to a small number of users first, rather than promoting them as a whole.

Typeface is a generative artificial intelligence startup based in San Francisco, USA, which mainly develops software that can automatically generate personalized marketing materials for enterprises. The company recently announced that $65 million in seed-wheel financing was oversubscribed, with investors including LightSpeed Ventures (Lightspeed Venture Partners), GV, Microsoft's venture capital M12 and Monroe Ventures (Menlo Ventures).

Abhay Parasnis, chief executive of Typeface, said the company integrated several generative artificial intelligence platforms, including GPT and Stable Diffusion, to develop customized artificial intelligence models for each enterprise customer. "We have been developing enterprise applications since our inception," he said. " He added that current users include marketing, advertising, sales, human resources and customer support departments of companies in various industries.

In addition to the customer-oriented service business, startups are also developing generative artificial intelligence tools for internal business management. RFPIO, a Beaverton, Ore., startup with $26.5 million in investment, recently launched an integrated GPT software app designed to quickly check proposals, security and due diligence questionnaires and other written responses for grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors.

AJ AJ Sunder, co-founder and chief information and product officer of RFPIO, said that RFPIO's software is not just a simple spell check function, it can also convert the passive voice into the active voice, adjust the wording, improve readability, elaborate on key points, summarize large pieces of text, and so on. The company has nearly 2000 business customers worldwide, he said.

"We are fine-tuning the underlying language model of ChatGPT to create editorial written responses in customer systems based on verified trusted content," Sunda said.

He acknowledged that ChatGPT was trained on the basis of public information on the Internet and that there was an inherent risk of inaccurate results. Mr Sanda says one reason companies are cautious about generative artificial intelligence is that "the underlying technology is still in its infancy and is growing very fast."
