CTOnews.com March 7 news, the Asahi team recently launched the AGX Mesa driver, which provides preliminary OpenGL driver support for Mac devices running Apple Silicon chips. The driver has been incorporated into Mesa 23.1 to support compute shaders / kernels.

CTOnews.com learned from the report that developer Alyssa Rosenzweig merged the initial support code for the computing kernel (compute kernels) into Mesa Git over the weekend.

After merging the relevant driver code, Mesa can better handle the computing kernel. However, the driver is based on the DRM kernel driver, which has not yet been upstream into the Linux kernel. In any case, it is a pleasure for Mesa 23.1 to integrate this computing kernel / shader.
