According to reports, the new Canary channel is similar to the Dev development channel, including some major changes to the Windows kernel, new API, and so on. Of course, the version number released to Canary will be higher than that of Dev, Beta and Release Preview (CTOnews.com Note: Canary will start with Build 25000.x).

As with the Dev development channel, some of the content in the Canary channel will never be actually installed in the official version, while other changes may occur in future Windows versions.

Microsoft stressed that it will transfer testers who have previously updated Bulid 25000.x in Dev Channel to Canary Channel, and affected people will be notified of the migration in the system and email.

From Microsoft's words, we can feel that the new Canary channel is "faster" than the original Dev development channel, similar to the auto-build version that is common on Gtihub, and will be automatically released after development, with no check or little verification, while the Dev version will at least check, so the Dev channel is more stable.

Microsoft also mentioned that Canary channels do not necessarily have new features every time they are updated, so they will only release updated documents when new features appear. In addition, Canary Channel is not a daily shift, but new versions are likely to be released more frequently in the future.

Initial Build version of each channel:

Canary Channel: 25000 series. Ideal for advanced technology users. Early previews in the new platform development cycle. This version may be unstable and released without documentation.

Dev Channel: 23000 series. Ideal choice for tasting lovers. Can bring you the latest Windows 11 new ideas and the latest feature ideas. This version will be somewhat "rough" and less stable.

Beta Channel: 22000 series. Ideal for early users. These Windows 11 versions will be more reliable than the development channel version, and the updates have been verified by Microsoft. This is also where you submit feedback that has the greatest impact.

Release Preview: Windows 10 & Windows 11. If you want to get fixes and some key features in advance, and try it before the next version of Windows is officially released, this is your ideal choice, and the channel is also recommended for business users.

It is worth mentioning that for people who automatically transfer to Canary but want to re-enter Dev, they need a new installation of Windows 11 to switch.

If you are a member of the internal preview experience of Beta Channel and want to try to update the new features and Windows experience, you can now switch to Dev Channel immediately.

It should be noted that when switching channels, users cannot switch to a lower version number in the case of "unclean installation of Windows 11" due to technical setting requirements.
