CTOnews.com, March 7 (Xinhua)-- Apple acquired Finnish technology company Beddit in May 2017, but it hasn't done much in the past six years. According to a list released by the US Trademark and Patent Office this week, Apple has obtained a patent for Beddit-related technology.

According to the patent description, Apple uses one or more antennas to detect the physiological parameters and conditions of users lying in bed using the reflection or transmission of electromagnetic radiation.

The whole system involves one or more substrates, wireless transceivers, antennas coupled with wireless transceivers, and control systems. The substrate can be fixed in a certain position of the bed and connected by a wireless transceiver to send and receive wireless pulses via the antenna.

CTOnews.com learned from the report that the system can be integrated into items such as mattresses to detect whether someone is lying in bed, when users go to bed and sleep status, and analyze this information to provide useful sleep advice.

Apple released its first Beddit sleep tracker in 2018. The upgraded Beddit 3.5 sleep monitor is thinner than the previous model and can be placed under the sheets to track body movements throughout the night.
