Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, March 6 (Xinhua)-- Samsung has recently reported that Samsung has restarted the development of a custom CPU kernel for future Galaxy devices. However, the South Korean company claimed that the reports were not true.
On the above report, Samsung Electronics told Sammobile: "there have been recent media reports that Samsung has set up an internal team dedicated to developing the CPU kernel, which is not true. Contrary to this news, we have long had a number of internal teams responsible for CPU development and optimization, while constantly recruiting global talent in related fields." This suggests that the company has not yet begun to develop custom CPU kernels for its future smartphones, tablets and laptops.
Samsung's statement suggests that the company may continue to use ARM's public version of the CPU kernel in its future smartphones. It is reported that ARM has changed its license terms and does not allow OEM to modify its public domain design. Since Qualcomm acquired Nuvia, ARM and Qualcomm have been at odds over the license terms for ARM's CPU kernel design.
CTOnews.com notes that there have been reports in the past that Samsung Electronics' mobile phone division, Samsung MX, has set up an internal team to develop internal smartphone chipsets from scratch. However, there is no official information in this regard. It is reported that Samsung will switch to an internal chipset for the Galaxy S25 in early 2025.
Samsung has been under pressure because of the poor performance of the Exynos processor. The company is also embroiled in disputes related to GOS (Game Optimization Service), which reduces the peak game performance of the Galaxy S22 series to achieve stable and sustained performance. Later, the company had to provide an option to turn off GOS on its smartphones through software updates.
