Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, March 6 (Xinhua)-- A South Korean government official said on Monday that the South Korean government rejected a request from US technology giant Apple to transmit high-precision South Korean map data overseas, citing security concerns, Yonhap news agency reported.
According to officials from South Korea's Ministry of Land and Transport, Apple applied to the National Geographic Information Institute of Korea, which is affiliated with South Korea's Ministry of Land and Transport, to obtain Korean map data with a scale of 1RU 5000, but its request was rejected on February 16.
"it's mainly because of security issues," the department official said. at present, South Korea only allows the transmission of map data with a scale of 25000 to overseas, while higher-precision map data is not allowed.
Prior to this, Google has repeatedly asked the South Korean government to take map data overseas, but all of them were rejected.
High-precision map data is seen as the key to next-generation wireless services such as autopilot, augmented reality and virtual reality, and Apple has not commented on South Korea's decision as of CTOnews.com.
