CTOnews.com, March 6 (Xinhua)-- A chocolate 3D printer called Cocoa Press will go on sale in the United States this spring, giving users the freedom to design and make chocolates of all shapes and flavors, according to Techradar.
Cocoa Press is a company founded by Evan Weinstein, a student at the University of Pennsylvania, who has been interested in chocolate 3D printing since high school and improved his prototype during college. "I want people to be able to create things they can't imagine," he said.
The Cocoa Press works like a regular FDM / FFF 3D printer, except that it uses chocolate paste in a magazine instead of plastic wire and an extruder. Through the syringe, it can deposit the melted chocolate layer by layer on the platform to form the final chocolate work.
The 150W 3D printer has a maximum construction volume of 140x150x150 millimeters, but the company says the design is mainly limited by chocolate boxes, which contain 70 grams of chocolate, which needs to be preheated for 15 minutes before printing, which is "slightly below body temperature." it is clearly not high compared to the temperature of more than 200C required for plastic-based printers.
"We are working on a way to allow users to reload chocolates during the printing process," Cocoa Press said.
Cocoa Press supports many types of chocolate, including milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, etc., as well as touch screen, temperature-controlled airtight compartment and food safety extruder. It is said that it can complete complex patterns and details more quickly, accurately and easily than by hand.
The Cocoa Press is expensive, with even the cheapest DIY kit costing $1499 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 10358 yuan), while professional packages start at $3995 (currently about 27605 yuan). Orders for the chocolate 3D printer will begin on April 17, when a deposit of $100 will be charged. Orders from the United States and Canada are expected to be shipped in September 2023, while other markets and fully assembled versions will be released later in 2024.
