CTOnews.com March 6 news, Intel in the third quarter of 2022 financial results, revealed that they have signed seven of the global TOP10 semiconductor designers. In addition, Intel also said that it will rapidly develop five process nodes within four years, regain its position as the leader in semiconductors in the world, and recapture its former glory.

According to Taiwan Economic Daily, Intel 20A and Intel 18A have been filmed (the design has been finalized). This is the company's latest progress in process technology below 2nm recently, which makes the market pay more attention to the process technology competition between TSMC and TSMC.

Wang Rui, senior vice president and chairman of Intel China, said recently, "every huge decline in the semiconductor industry will recover. We firmly believe in IDM2.0 's strategy, and its biggest challenge is our internal execution. No one likes the Q4 Intel earnings report in 2022, and it is impossible for us not to make adjustments."

At present, around the IDM2.0 strategy, Intel wants to break through from three aspects. The first is to develop contract manufacturing business. Intel plans to regain its leading position in process technology in 2025 according to five nodes in four years, and to establish the differentiation of wafer foundries through "system-level foundry".

Referring to a large number of previous reports from CTOnews.com, Intel's process technology planning has gradually moved from Intel 10 to Intel 7 and Intel 4 in recent years, and then to Intel 3, Intel 20A and Intel 18A.

According to Wang Rui, Intel 7 has been mass produced, Intel 4 will be launched in the second half of this year and will be used in core processors (Meter Lake). Intel 3 is advancing as planned, and the test chips of Intel 20A (2nm) and Intel 18A (1.8nm) have been rolled out.

It is worth mentioning that there was news of delay in the development of Intel 3nm process technology in the previous market, but it was later denied by Intel CEO Kissinger. He stressed that the plans are going as expected and that all 3nm projects announced so far will be released in 2024.

According to the plan, Intel's Granite Rapids and Sierra Forest series processors will be produced by its own Intel3 process. According to Intel's previous information, Intel 3 can further draw on the advantages of FinFET optimization, increase the proportion of EUV usage, and bring more improvements. Compared with the Intel 4 process, Intel3 provides approximately 18% efficiency per watt improvement and is expected to start production gradually in the second half of this year.

Wang Rui also stressed that Intel is very confident that it will be able to return to its leading position by 2025.
