CTOnews.com March 6 news, NXP Semiconductor recently announced the launch of a security chip specially designed for Matter-EdgeLock SE051H. EdgeLock SE051H is a single-chip solution integrated with NFC that is designed to simplify secure network access authentication for Matter devices and deliver a new smart home user experience-automation advice, installation videos and other content can be obtained at the touch of a NFC-enabled phone.

The Matter standard provides protection for smart home devices by requiring a variety of functions, including encryption key pairs, digital certificates and other security-related hardware and firmware. EdgeLock SE051H is optimized to support the above requirements, including the algorithms and encryption features required by Matter, making it easy for device manufacturers to integrate the necessary security protection into end devices.

EdgeLock SE051H has been certified by the common standard EAL 6 + to support the encryption operations required for Matter authentication of smart devices. It includes Matter device authentication and certificate-based authentication using ECC encryption technology and NIST Pmur256 curve, as well as SPAKE2 + algorithm for password authentication key exchange. In order to protect Matter protocol, the chip is also equipped with key security functions such as ECDSA, ECDH and true random number generator. In addition, EdgeLock SE051H integrates the NFC interface and four types of tag functions.

As a security requirement of Matter, device authentication certificates can be used to confirm the authenticity of the device, prove credibility, and establish empirical connections to larger Matter networks.

NXP is one of the first semiconductor manufacturers to be awarded a trusted product certification body by CSA, and its EdgeLock 2GO service provides a flexible platform for the secure configuration of Internet of things devices. When used in conjunction with EdgeLock SE051H, EdgeLock 2GO can pre-inject certificates directly into the chip in wafer manufacturing, or securely issue certificates through wireless remote (OTA) that provides end-to-end security to simplify supply chain management and comply with Matter standards.

Matter works through Wi-Fi and Thread, Wi-Fi allows smart home devices to communicate with the cloud, and Thread provides an energy-efficient and reliable mesh network in the home. The first version of Matter will support a variety of smart home products such as lighting, HVAC controls, curtains, safety and security sensors, door locks, media devices, controllers and bridges.
