ARM, a British chip design giant owned by Softbank Corp. Group, will launch an initial public offering (IPO) in the United States this year and is likely to raise at least $8 billion, according to people familiar with the matter on March 6, Beijing time. ARM's IPO is expected to be one of the largest listings in the United States in the past decade.

ARM is expected to secretly submit IPO documents at the end of April and will list later this year, depending on market conditions, according to people familiar with the matter. ARM said last week that it would only seek a separate listing in the US this year, dashing the British government's hopes that the tech giant would return to the London Stock Exchange.

Softbank Corp. has selected four investment banks to lead what is expected to be the most high-profile stock listing in recent years. Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Barclays and Mizuho Financial Group are expected to be lead underwriters of ARM IPO, but no bank has yet been selected for the coveted role of "lead manager" (lead left), according to people familiar with the matter.

ARM expects to start preparations for IPO in the US in the coming days, and the valuation range has not yet been finalized, but ARM hopes to value it at more than $50 billion during the share sale, according to people familiar with the matter.

Other media reported last week that ARM was seeking a valuation of between $30 billion and $70 billion. ARM, Goldman Sachs and Mizuho declined to comment. Softbank Corp., JPMorgan Chase and Barclays did not respond to requests for comment.
