TSMC, the world's largest contract chip manufacturer, said in a statement that it will hire more than 6000 new employees in 2023.

Although the global chip industry is in the doldrums, hiring continues.

TSMC said it would recruit young engineers with junior college, bachelor's, master's or doctoral degrees in electrical engineering or software-related fields in Taiwan's cities.

New engineers with master's degrees will receive an average annual salary of NT $2 million (US $65578.07), the company said.

Due to the shortage of some chips, the product inventory is large, and the market demand for electronic products is declining, which leads to the downturn of the global semiconductor industry.

Since the end of 2022, a number of chip companies around the world have slowed down their investment.

Intel, for example, recently announced that pay cuts for its executives and middle-level employees would be cut from 5% to 25%.

TSMC makes some of the most advanced chips for high-end customers such as Apple, and its market dominance in this area insulates it from the industry downturn.

Even so, TSMC has slightly reduced its annual capital expenditure budget for 2023 and expects revenues to fall in the first quarter. But the company said it expected demand to pick up in the second half of this year.
