Samsung plans to use a "water drop" hinge design for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 to provide softer curves in a folded state, reducing screen creases and reducing the risk of screen cracking, according to South Korean media Naver.

Thanks to this new hinge, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is rumored to be 13 to 14 millimeters thick, which will further reduce screen creases. By contrast, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 has a size of 14.2mm near the edge and 15.8mm at the hinge.

CTOnews.com learned from the report that Samsung will conduct multiple rounds of 200000 folding tests on the Z Fold 5, hoping that the hinge loss will not exceed 15% of its initial strength. 200000 tests will take about five days, and Samsung is likely to conduct multiple tests in the coming month.

Samsung has continuously improved the crease area since the commercial promotion of foldable devices, especially on Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, using the "U" hinge design. Take the domestic OPPO Find N2 as an example, the "water drop" hinge design can reduce the pressure on the screen, and the crease will not be particularly obvious in the unfolding state.
