The Razr is one of Motorola's most iconic phones, first launched in 2004 and one of the most popular flip phones in the 2000s. In 2020, Motorola revived the Razr brand by introducing foldable phones and became one of the first manufacturers to launch foldable phones.

Yang Yuanqing told CNBC at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Wednesday that the response from users to Razr was "very good" and that Motorola would launch the next generation of foldable phones "very soon."

"I think it's much better," Yang Yuanqing said of the devices that have not yet been launched. He did not provide many details, but said the improvements would focus on the application of hinges and devices. Smartphone makers from Samsung to Glory are paying attention to the hinges when launching foldable phones to make sure they are strong enough and create as few creases as possible on the screen. Foldable devices account for only 1.1% of total smartphone shipments in 2022 and are expected to grow to 2.8% by 2026, but they are seen by electronics manufacturers as a way to move into the high-end smartphone market, according to research firm IDC.

Yang Yuanqing said that the price of foldable mobile phones is quite high at present, but it will decrease in the future, which may make the market bigger.

Whistleblower @ evleaks (Evan Blass), who previously released a rendering of Razr 2023, said the phone will be launched on June 1, 2023, codenamed Juno. From the rendering picture, the outer screen of the machine is so large that it almost occupies the entire folded back cover.

Motorola is known for experimenting with different forms of smartphones. CTOnews.com reported that on MWC, the company showed a scroll screen concept machine whose display could be rolled up to expand a 5-inch smartphone into a 6.5-inch phone.
