Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, March 2 (Xinhua)-- suppliers in Apple's iPhone supply chain say the iPhone 15 Pro series launched this year may trigger demand from regular users because it will feature an A17 processor, the first time Apple has used TSMC's 3-nanometer process to make iPhone chips that significantly improve performance and efficiency, according to DigiTimes.
The report quotes suppliers as saying that TSMC's N3E (3 nm enhanced) technology will significantly upgrade the specifications of the new generation of iPhone series, and manufacturers involved in the iPhone supply chain expect new opportunities to stimulate demand for replacement machines launched in 2023.
According to previous reports, Apple is likely to use TSMC 3 nanotechnology to make the A17 bionic chip this year, which is expected to be based on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models.
According to CTOnews.com, the first generation of 3-nm process (also known as N3) can improve power consumption efficiency by 35% compared to TSMC's N4 process based on 4-nm process. The N4 process is used to make the A16 bionic chip, which is based on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. N3 technology can also greatly improve the performance of the chip compared to the current chip based on 4 nm.
Despite the high manufacturing costs, it has been reported that Apple has won all the initial orders for TSMC's first-generation 3-nanotechnology. It also means that other smartphone makers, such as Samsung, are willing to wait for prices to fall before adopting the process, and the Android market is expected to face a tough situation in 2023 amid global economic turmoil.
Apple's faster A17 chip will only be used on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, while the regular iPhone 15 and Plus versions will use the A16 chip previously used on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. TSMC is preparing to start mass production of N3Emure, an enhanced version of N3 technology, in the second half of this year, and Apple is still expected to be the first customer to adopt the process.
The iPhone 15 series models are expected to use USB-C to replace the Lightning interface, and the Pro series models will also use solid-state volume and power buttons, new periscope camera technology, etc.
