This is the Windows 11 virtual machine provided free of charge during the evaluation. This means that users can download ready-to-use VM from the official Microsoft website and use it without activation until May 23, 2023.

The Windows 11 development environment is available for VMWare (Workstation Pro and Player), Hyper-V Gen2, VirtualBox, and Parallels virtual machines. Includes Windows11 Enterprise SKU, Visual Studio 2022 Community Edition, Windows Subsystem for Linux 2, Ubuntu, and Windows Terminal. It also enables developer mode by default.

Windows 11 development environment version 2302 is based on Windows 11 Build 22621.1265 (Windows 11 version 22H2 Moment 1), and users can update it to Moment 2 update (optional KB5022913) as soon as they set up VM.

Although users can use virtual machines without activation, some features still require license keys. For example, personalization settings cannot be changed. Microsoft also warned that after May 23, 2023, the desktop background will turn black, users will see continuous activation notifications, and the virtual machine will be shut down every hour. However, Microsoft is likely to release an updated version before this version expires (CTOnews.com Note: the last update was on January 21, 2023).

Users can download the latest Windows 11 virtual machine provided by Microsoft on the official website. They require that the computer's hard drive has at least the free space of 21GB.
