It's worth noting that this model OpenAI opens up may not be the one Bing uses, as Microsoft calls it "the new next-generation OpenAI large language model," which is "faster, more accurate, and more powerful" than ChatGPT and GPT-3.5.

In addition to launching the ChatGPT API, the company will also launch the Whisper API. Whisper is an AI-powered speech-to-text model that costs $0.006 per minute.

Whisper can transcribe multiple languages and translate those languages into English, according to OpenAI. It accepts files in various formats including M4A, MP3, MP4, MPEG, MPGA, WAV and WEBM.

Whisper has its limitations, however, especially in predicting the "next word." OpenAI warns that Whisper may include words in its transcription that are not actually said, possibly because it is trying to both predict the next word in the audio and transcribe the audio recording itself.

When OpenAI released Whisper in September 2022, it sounded like a great development, but adoption of the model was much slower than ChatGPT due to the difficulty and cost of implementation.
