Animal recognition AF technology can be traced back to the 2010 Fuji Z707 / F85EXR, a batch of products that can identify cats or dogs in pet mode.

In January 2019, Sony announced that it would add animal eye AF functions through firmware updates to α 6400, α 7III, α 7RIII, α 9 and other products. The animal detection here is mainly cats and dogs, which can only be used for photo shooting, and can only detect the eyes (the subject may be lost when the eyes are closed or there is no obvious face).

Since November 2019, Panasonic has implemented bird identification for the first time by adding animal detection functions to G9, GH5S, S1, S1R and other products through firmware updates. Panasonic's animal recognition can be used for video, but can only detect the body.

In February 2020, Nikon released the new firmware Z 6 / Z 7, which realizes the function of detecting animal face / eyes when taking photos and detecting animal faces in video (mainly cats / dogs). In the same year, Z 6II and Z 7II added animal eye detection in the video.

In March 2020, Canon officially confirmed that EOS R5 supports animal detection AF, adding body / face / eye tests to birds for the first time in animal recognition. So far, all Canon microphones equipped with DIGIC X image processors support animal detection AF, and can be used in photography and video.

In November 2020, Olympus released E-M1X V2.0 firmware to increase testing of birds' bodies, heads and eyes. Because this feature needs to be supported by AI chips, E-M1 Mark III released later than E-M1X cannot be added through updates. In 2022, Aozhishi released OM-1, which not only supports bird detection, but also adds cat / dog identification.

In October 2021, Nikon Z 9 implemented head, eye and body testing of cats / dogs / birds.

Sony has bird's eye focus on the A1, but only when taking pictures. After that, α 7IV and FX30 added video bird's eye detection, but still did not support body and head detection. Until October 2022, α 7RV, with the help of AI chip, was able to detect the bodies / heads / eyes of animals (mainly cats and dogs) and birds in photos and videos, and pioneered insect detection.

In November 2022, Canon R6 Mark II added body / face / eye tests on horses.

In May 2022, Fuji released the X-H2S with the 5th generation processor, which supports the detection of animals, birds and other subjects. In January 2023, X-H2S received a V3.0 firmware update to add insect recognition.

Because many products involve firmware updates, the model of this table is incomplete and there may be errors. Let's get to the bottom first. If there are corrections and additions, I will put them on the top of the message.
