CTOnews.com, March 1 (Xinhua)-- according to Reuters, three people familiar with the matter revealed that Tesla is preparing for a production transformation of his best-selling Model Y.

Two of the people familiar with the matter, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the transformation of Model Y involved the appearance and interior of the cross-border electric vehicle, with the goal of starting production in 2024, and Tesla gave the project a code name: Project Juniper.

Reuters previously reported that Tesla was already working to renovate his Shanghai plant to prepare for an improved version of his Model 3 sedan, a project Tesla called Highland. The Highland version of Model 3 is expected to go into production in Shanghai in September, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Tesla is improving his Model 3 car through the Highland project to reduce production costs and increase the attractiveness of the electric car, according to people involved in the project. Model 3 made its debut in 2017. In addition to appearance and power performance, emphasis will be placed on improving production efficiency, they said.
