CTOnews.com March 1, China Unicom released the world's first universal 5G RedCap commercial module NX307 during MWC 2023.

According to China Unicom, the 5G RedCap commercial module NX307 supports the 5G mainstream commercial frequency band, focusing on industrial, power and vehicle networking and other industries to meet the needs of industry customers for lightweight 5G modules. Compared with the existing R15 / R16 module, the cost of Yanfei NX307 module is reduced by 50%, and the power consumption is 80% of that of the same size LTE Cat.4 module. In addition, the module fully matches the 3GPP standard in terms of 5G uplink speed, delay and reliability, and integrates 5G key capabilities such as high-precision positioning, network slicing, 5G LAN and high-precision timing, enabling the digital transformation of customers in the industry.

Here are the highlights of the 5G RedCap commercial module NX307:

End-to-end network industry convergence: NX307 module integrates China Unicom grid DMP platform and Zhilian CMP platform SDK, realizing pre-embedded capabilities such as boot-on cloud and 5G end network convergence. At the same time, the module is deeply compatible with the PLUS series products of Unicom 5G private network, and has the customization characteristics of scene-oriented private network.

High performance-price ratio: NX307 module greatly reduces cost by cutting the number of antennas and redundancy functions; provides LCC+LGA, miniPCIe and other packaging forms, which can directly replace mainstream LTE Cat.4 module; supports 3GPP standard AT instruction and Unicom extended AT instruction set, realizes fast iterative upgrade from upper computer to RedCap module, and reduces terminal transformation cost.

Rich interfaces: NX307 module provides users with rich functional interfaces, convenient for terminal customers to expand their peripherals, and can support interfaces such as USB2.0, PCIe, SPI, UART, GPIO, IRIG-B timing service, etc. At the same time, rich network protocols are built in the module, which is significantly optimized in terms of reliability, power consumption and stability, making it convenient for terminal customers to deploy 5G applications quickly.

RedCap (CTOnews.com Note: all referred to as Reduced Capability) is a key 5G new technology in the 3GPP R17 phase. By simplifying the number of terminal antennas and reducing the transceiver bandwidth, RedCap greatly reduces the cost and size, and achieves the best balance between performance and cost.
