Beijing, March 1 (Xinhua) inside Twitter, employees speculated that Steve Davis, CEO of The Boring Company, a tunnel-digging company owned by Elon Musk, might replace Musk as Twitter's new CEO. Musk, who is looking for a new CEO for Twitter, had said he planned to step down by the end of the year.

▲ Davis used to sleep in the Twitter office following Musk's example. Davis reportedly helped Twitter plan the latest round of layoffs, which affected about 200 people this week. Before the layoffs, Davis called Twitter managers and asked them to find "good" employees. Davis' role in this round of layoffs on Twitter has led employees at all levels of the company to speculate that he will replace Musk as Twitter's new CEO.

At the same time, Davis is increasingly involved in Twitter. In December last year, Davis was reportedly told to find ways to cut Twitter operating costs by about $500 million. As a result, he cut costs by about $1 billion by terminating some contracts with outside companies and negotiating lower prices for others. And, borrowing from Musk, he was one of the first employees to start sleeping at Twitter's San Francisco headquarters in October. Davis slept in a makeshift bedroom in the office with his newborn and partner in the first few weeks after the baby was born.

Davis became The Boring Company CEO in 2019. Musk founded the company about three years ago with the vision of a network of high-speed tunnels, or super-high-speed rail. Before becoming The Boring Company CEO, Davis worked with Musk at SpaceX. The two have been working together since 2003.
