Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, February 28 (Xinhua)-- China's BOE is expected to struggle to mass produce the first OLED screens for Apple's iPhone 15 series released later this year, because this year's iPhone 15 series will be equipped with Smart Island, and BOE has encountered difficulties in processing perforated displays, according to South Korean media The Elec. So far, only two companies, Samsung display and LG display, are expected to participate in mass production of the iPhone 15 series OLED, which is expected to be completed by June.

According to the report, the OLED panel produced by BOE for the iPhone 15 series has experienced light leakage, and the problem is said to be limited to the low-end 6.1in iPhone 15 model that BOE is involved in manufacturing.

Apple requires its iPhone 15 OLED suppliers to use something called edge light barrier (ELB), a device to prevent light leakage around the camera lens, as well as other advanced technology. However, BOE could not successfully apply this solution, and it was reported that BOE "does not seem to meet the strict standards required by Apple".

Due to light leakage, the report said it would be difficult for BOE to participate in the mass production of the first batch of iPhone 15 series OLED panels scheduled for around June. The report predicts that the OLED panel made by BOE will initially be used for mobile phone maintenance and refurbishment, rather than for new products. Whether LG or Samsung will take OLED orders missed by BOE may be determined by the latter's capacity.

As of CTOnews.com, JD.com has not responded to this so far.
