Intel and AMD shipped about 54 million CPU retail units in the fourth quarter of 2022, down from 66 million in the third quarter (down 17.4 percent) and 84 million in the fourth quarter of 2021 (down 35.3 percent), the report said.

Analysts estimate that desktop stand-alone graphics cards sold about 7.43 million in the fourth quarter, up 7.8 per cent from a month earlier, but down 43.7 per cent from a year earlier.

Sales of desktop GPU fell 24% month-on-month, while shipments of laptop GPU fell 43% in the fourth quarter of 2022, according to JPR.

The data show that although sales of Intel's CPU and GPU (including check) fell sharply in the fourth quarter of 2022, the company still maintains its position as the world's largest GPU supplier with a 71 per cent market share. Nvidia ranks second with a 17 per cent share, while AMD's share remains around 12 per cent.

Jon Peddie, president of JPR, said: "Total CPU shipments in this quarter fell 15.3% from the previous quarter, resulting in a 6.8% drop in the 10-year historical average growth rate. Total shipments in the quarter were 64 million units, a decrease of 38.5 million pieces compared with the same period last year, indicating that the GPU market is showing a negative growth trend."
