Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, February 28 (Xinhua)-- while the acquisition of Activision Blizzard is important for Microsoft, Xbox director Phil Spencer (Phil Spencer) said it was "not a long-term key."
Microsoft's plan to buy Activision Blizzard has been subject to a series of regulatory scrutiny. Since the official announcement of the transaction for more than a year, regulators in several countries have expressed concern about the deal, such as the British Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), the European Commission and the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
Spencer, CEO of Microsoft's Xbox gaming business, recently spoke to the Times about how they tried to get the deal approved.
Mr Spencer said he met with CMA in London and then went to Brussels to talk to European Commission regulators. "this is an important acquisition for us. But in the long run, this is not the point-even if the deal is not approved, Xbox will still exist."
This sentence is a key conclusion drawn from Spencer's conversation. Although Microsoft thought the deal was important and took months or even a year to get it approved by countries, the company didn't think it was the ultimate goal of Xbox games.
It may not be clear why he said that, because many so-called industry experts thought Microsoft would sell Xbox after the acquisition was blocked. VCC Andy Andy Robinson, for example, said on Twitter, "No matter what Spencer says, I know a lot of industry experts insist that if the deal is blocked, Microsoft has a good chance of selling Xbox (I still hope it passes)."
In addition, Spencer shared his confusion about how some regulators view Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
"Competition is the help on our way to becoming stronger. I have no good reason to explain why better competition is harmful to consumers to some extent," he said.
"because for me, let us, Sony and Nintendo do a good job in the console market-we all have unique strengths, content and capabilities-to give consumers more choices. I don't want to see the mainframe market degenerate into a mobile phone era with only two manufacturers. and now, we're three good competitors."
Microsoft's gaming chief executive also explained that the gaming industry is a new area for many regulators.
"I spent most of my time working for Xbox dealing with government regulators who really didn't know much about the gaming industry." I appreciate the time I spend with them and help them with their education in some cases. I think this is the first time for many regulators to look at the industry. "
CTOnews.com has reported that Microsoft has repeatedly tried to persuade regulators to approve the deal, including signing an agreement to keep call of Duty on Sony's PS platform for at least a decade. In addition, Microsoft has agreed to open more Xbox games on NVIDIA GeForce NOW.
