CTOnews.com, February 27 (Xinhua)-- Apple paid a fine of 906 million rubles (CTOnews.com Note: about 82.99 million yuan) in an antitrust case in Russia involving Apple's alleged abuse of its dominant position in the mobile app market, the Russian news agency quoted sources as saying on Monday.

In April 2021, the Russian Federal Antitrust Service (FAS) announced an antitrust fine of 906 million rubles on Apple. FAS said at the time that Apple abused its dominant position in the app distribution market in two cases: barriers to developers of applications controlled by parents and lack of clear rules for app store approval. Apple subsequently filed an appeal. Last Wednesday, the Moscow Court of Arbitration rejected Apple's appeal.

It is reported that the investigation was conducted at the request of Kaspersky Lab, a Russian cyber security company. Kaspersky Labs said it had submitted Kaspersky Safe Kids, a parent-controlled app to Apple, and Apple refused to make it to the shelves for no reason. But then Apple introduced a similar feature, Screen Time, in its iOS 12 mobile operating system.

Last month, Apple asked the Moscow Court of Arbitration to invalidate a ruling by the Russian Antitrust Agency (FAS), which fined the company 1.2 billion roubles for binding Apple payment systems to Russian developers' apps. According to the published court decision, Apple's application was submitted to the court on January 31, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 13. On January 17th the Russian antitrust bureau reported that it had fined Apple for abusing its dominant position.
