February 27, according to foreign media reports, after Germany and the United States, Mercedes-Benz Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Markus Schaefer confirmed that the company's autopilot system DRIVE Pilot will enter the Chinese market, challenging Tesla's fully automatic driving (FSD) system.

It is reported that Mercedes-Benz's DRIVE Pilot system was approved for use in Germany in May 2022. Last month, the system was approved for use in the United States, making the company the first automaker in the United States to be allowed to operate L3 self-driving cars.

Nevada is the first state in the United States to be allowed to use the DRIVE Pilot system, where self-driving cars run at a relatively low speed of 40 miles per hour and on suitable highways.

In addition to Nevada, Mercedes-Benz hopes to expand its DRIVE Pilot system to California and other places. Previously, the company has provided certification documents to the state.

It is reported that Mercedes-Benz will use Drive Pilot in S-Class and EQS models and will deliver the first models to customers in the second half of 2023.

Foreign media say Mercedes has quickly become a leader in self-driving, ahead of traditional competitors such as BMW and Volkswagen, and even challenging current market leader Tesla.

Tesla began to push the FSD beta software to some customers on the evening of October 20, 2020. The FSD beta software allows cars to accomplish almost all the tasks related to driving on city streets, but it is not good enough to do so without driver supervision. The driver needs to be attentive and ready to take over the car at all times.

So far, Tesla's FSD software has been tested for more than two years. The company hopes to get closer to L5 autopilot by improving the FSD beta software.
