On the first day of the conference, China Unicom and China Telecom jointly released the Guide to the Co-Construction and sharing of 5G Networks (version 2023). The release of the new guide will contribute new Chinese experience to the global telecommunications industry.

At the launch of the GSMA 5G co-construction and sharing guide, Liang Baojun, deputy general manager of China Unicom, shared the experience of 5G co-building and sharing. He said that through the innovative co-building and sharing network model, China's 5G network has developed vigorously and achieved three remarkable results.

At present, the global economy is still in the process of weak recovery after the epidemic, and the development and application of digital technology will accelerate the process of global economic recovery. Liang Baojun said that in China, 5G has become an important engine to promote the development of digital economy. As of December 2022, the number of 5G users in China has exceeded 560 million, and 5G application coverage has exceeded 40 major categories of national economy.

As the vanguard of global 5G construction, in order to get out of the mode reform of co-building and sharing, China Unicom and China Telecom have quickly solved the 5G construction problems faced by the world, such as repeated network construction, high cost, high energy consumption and so on. The two sides have carried out technological innovation in the whole life cycle of 5G network co-construction and sharing nationwide, made major breakthroughs in 5G sharing technology, devices, equipment, networking and operation, and realized one physical network, two logical networks and multiple customized private networks.

Liang Baojun said that China's 5G network has achieved three remarkable results through innovative co-construction and sharing model.

First, wide coverage of construction, narrowing the digital divide and enhancing the well-being of the people. Through co-construction, sharing and partition construction, the deployment speed of 5G network has doubled. At present, China Unicom and China Telecom have built more than 1 million 5G shared base stations, covering the extension from urban to rural areas. At the same time, in the depths of the mountains of Guizhou, the 5G network allows children to enjoy more educational resources, making up for the differences in education between urban and rural areas.

Second, the extreme speed, enhance the user experience, enable intelligent digital life. By sharing the bandwidth of 200MHz, the peak rate of 5G network can be as high as 3.2Gbit / s. At the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games and the 2022 Winter Paralympic Games, the combination of 5G networks and smart applications has brought an unprecedented experience of enabling science and technology to the global audience.

Third, high-efficiency operation, promoting cost reduction and efficiency, and serving China's dual-carbon strategy. Using the access network sharing scheme, China Unicom and China Telecom use one physical network and two logical networks, resulting in cumulative investment savings of more than $4 billion, annual operating cost savings of more than $400 million, and annual carbon emissions savings of more than 10 million tons.

"China Unicom and China Telecom cooperate with partners to actively carry out practical innovation in co-construction and sharing, which provides a good example for global 5G large-scale construction and low-carbon emission reduction." Liang Baojun expressed the hope that through today's release of the "5G Network Co-Construction and sharing Guide (2023 version)", to provide a reference for the global 5G industry.
