CTOnews.com February 27 news, Xiaomi today at the MWC 2023 Mobile World Congress officially released Xiaomi wireless AR glasses exploration version, sounds like a gimmick.
Today, foreign media XDA has had a hands-on experience of the device, revealing some details of the exploratory version of Xiaomi's wireless AR glasses.
BEN SIN, a senior editor at XDA, wore the AR glasses ahead of time, saying it looked like an oversized pair of Terminator sunglasses with silver rather than black surfaces.
Xiaomi Wireless AR glasses Discovery comes with a pair of Micro-OLED screens (one for each eye), supports 1200 nits of brightness, and provides full HD FHD vision. There are three forward-facing cameras in front of the glasses to draw the environment directly in front of the wearer.
▲ figure source XDA the glasses weigh only 126g and use lightweight materials such as carbon fiber and magnesium alloy, as well as Xiaomi's self-developed silicon-oxygen anode battery, which is smaller than conventional lithium-ion batteries.
The glasses are equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 chip and have no on-board storage, so they must be connected to the host device (Xiaomi 13 is used in the test). The glasses are completely wireless and connected to the smartphone through Xiaomi's "proprietary low-latency communication link" (a combination of WiFi and Bluetooth). Xiaomi advertises a delay of only 50 milliseconds, and the XDA test experience is indeed very low, including 20 minutes of video, the delay is almost imperceptible, and there is no decline in picture quality.
▲ Source XDA during the demonstration, Xiaomi demonstrated three AR test applications. The first is to run an interactive virtual desktop where users can open multiple windows and "map" them to the real world environment in front of them.
Users can control the window by using the connected phone screen as a trackpad-moving or resizing, or they can stretch out their arms and use gestures to move the window. When the user stretches out the arm and the palm of the hand is facing outward, the laser beam is emitted from the palm of the hand, which the user can use as an indicator. Users can also use finger pinching to "grasp" a window and move around.
The second demonstration of ▲ source XDA is an AR shooter where users can place a virtual machine gun on a flat surface, such as a table, and shoot strange-looking animals. The user can use the mobile phone or both hands to control the aiming.
▲ image source XDA finally, the third demonstration is a virtual Xiaomi home user interface, where users can tap a virtual switch with their fingers to turn on / off the millet lights they see in real life during the demonstration.
In addition, Xiaomi wireless AR glasses exploration version is also equipped with an electrochromic lens, which can be blackened at the press of a button. When users experience AR content, the lens is transparent and can see the real world. When users watch a movie, they can get more immersion by playing the content on the black screen.
▲ source XDA, however, according to the test, during the 30-minute demonstration, the glasses ran out of power, which means that the battery life will not be very long, which is also the disadvantage of thinning, can only be said to give up. In addition, the name "exploratory version" means that it may not be cheap or even mass-produced. What do CTOnews.com friends think of these glasses?
