CTOnews.com February 27, Reuters quoted the New York Times as saying that social media company Twitter has laid off at least 200 employees, accounting for about 10% of its total workforce. This is Elon Musk's latest round of layoffs since he took office last October.

The layoffs Saturday night affected product managers, data analysts and engineers working on machine learning and website reliability, according to people familiar with the matter. These jobs help keep Twitter's various features online.

Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Musk revealed last month that the company has about 2300 employees.

Last October, Tesla CEO Elon Musk completed a $44 billion deal to privatize Twitter. Subsequently, the company announced 50% layoffs of about 3700 people, which should be at least the eighth round of layoffs since Musk took over Twitter.

Twitter's daily revenue fell 40% year-on-year in January 2023, and hundreds of Twitter's top advertisers have stopped or scaled back spending, according to the data. One company estimates Twitter ad revenue fell as much as 70% year-on-year in December 2022.
