CTOnews.com, February 27 (Xinhua)-- Nissan raised its sales target for electric vehicles today and said it would increase powertrain production in the United States, hoping to catch up with automakers such as Tesla in the new energy vehicle market, Reuters reported.

Nissan said it now aims to account for more than 55 per cent of global sales of electric cars, including e-POWER hybrids, by fiscal year 2030, compared with a previous target of 50 per cent.

Nissan plans to launch 27 electric cars, including 19 all-electric models, by fiscal year 2030, Nissan said in a statement. For comparison, the company had planned to launch 23 electric cars, including 15 all-electric models.

In addition, Ashwani Gupta, Nissan's chief operating officer, said today that in addition to producing electric cars at its plant in Smyrna, Tennessee, Nissan also plans to produce electric cars at its Decherd plant in the state to help it meet the requirements of the inflation reduction Act.

In the domestic market, CTOnews.com reported in January this year that Dongfeng Nissan said that the Nissan brand would adhere to the electric drive route of pure electricity and e-POWER, and launch new electric drive products, including the standard life version of ARIYA and the new generation Qijun e-POWER, in 2023.
