CTOnews.com February 27 news, AMD dual-core flagship card Radeon Pro W6800X Duo is Apple's Mac Pro dedicated graphics card, equivalent to 33000 or 37500 yuan, using Apple's proprietary MPX (Mac Pro eXpansion) design, it has dual Navi 21 core, through AMD Infinity Fabric interconnect to achieve mutual communication.

Unfortunately, AMD didn't let the Radeon Pro W6800X Duo take full advantage of the Navi 21 chip, which disabled 20 compute units per Navi 21, resulting in only 60 compute units or 3840 stream processors.

In addition, each Navi 21 chip is equipped with 32GB of 16 Gbps GDDR6 memory, 256bit memory interface and 128MB unlimited cache.

This graphics card uses Apple's proprietary MPX form factor and has no external power connector, so Apple combines PCIe x16 connectors with custom connectors for power.

It is worth mentioning that AMD Radeon Pro W6800X Duo has a power of 400W, so a single regular PCIe x16 expansion slot is not enough to provide enough power for this graphics card, so it is currently only available on Mac.

Now, extreme overclocking enthusiast Roman "der8auer" Hartung has successfully run this graphics card on PC motherboards through some clever modifications.

First, he connected the graphics card to the PCIe expansion slot using a regular PCIe x16 patch cord, then soldered two 12V and two ground wires from his 12 V HPWR cable to a dedicated Apple connector, and finally achieved a stable power supply.

He then benchmarked the Radeon Pro W6800X Duo (CTOnews.com note: test platform i9- 13900K +Z790, dual 16GB DDR5-6000 C30 memory) and found that the performance of this graphics card is 4% higher than the ASUS Strix GeForce RTX 4080, but far inferior to RTX 4090. The graphics card also offers 8% better performance than AMD's latest Radeon RX 7900 XTX.
